Wie’s Making Believers
Michelle Wie made an incredible run at trying to qualify for the U.S. Open on Monday afternoon at the Sectional qualifying tournament in New Jersey, but came up short as her putting stroke went south late in the afternoon round. She shot a 68 in the morning round and only needed a couple of birdies in the afternoon round to secure her spot. She hit the ball extremely well all day but missed numerous birdie putts inside of 12 feet that would have made a difference in the end.
I personally didn’t give her much of a chance, but that’s why I’m doing what I’m doing and she’s out there playing professional golf! Although, as I’ve said before, I wish she’d concentrate on the LPGA tour because there’s no doubt she’s going to make a huge impact over the next 20 years, if she chooses to do so. I’ve read a few articles that speculate Wie make actually try to make a living on any and all professional tours worldwide, but I just don’t see the value in that.
Assuming she makes the cut one day in a men’s tournament (and I think it’s probable in the near-future) , I think it’s fair to say she’d probably finish in the top-50, and she’d could probably do that consistently. But does she really want to be the 50th best player on the PGA versus potentially being the number one player on the LPGA? The LPGA has plenty of great golfers that have more than enough game for Wie over the long haul and she needs to maybe win a few majors and money titles before she really thinks about playing the PGA seriously.
