PGA Revises Cut Rule…Again

The players talked and the PGA listened. Tour officials announced Tuesday their decision to modify the PGA cut rule along the guidelines suggested by the 16-member players’ advisory council. The new rule will allow players on the line to play one more day before being eliminated.
The 2008 cut policy, which began in January, had left 19 players at the Buick Invitational and 18 at the Sony Open in the money, but unable to play the final two rounds.

PGA Cut Rule in Jeopardy?

It’s only February, but the new PGA cut rule may soon be changed. Rule 78, which began this season, reduces the tournament field to 78 players for the final two days. This differs from the rule that’s been in effect since 1969, which made the cut at the top 70 players plus ties. The new policy left 18 players at the Sony Open and 19 at the Buick Inviational in the money, but unable to play in the Saturday and Sunday rounds.
