November 1, 2008 by Sandy Mitchell
John Daly was in the news yet again this week…and not for a good reason. The 42-year-old former British Open winner was arrested in Winston-Salem, North Carolina after being found drunk and unconscious at a Hooter’s Restaurant there. Daly was detained for 24 hours until he sobered up.

Daly Considering European Tour
October 5, 2008 by Sandy Mitchell
John Daly, the two-time major champion whose been in the news lately more for his antics than for his golf, told the Associated Press this week that he’s considering joining the European Tour for the 2009 season. Daly, who has blamed his less than stellar performance of late to a rib injury, made just five cuts in 16 events this year, earning $56,017. His world ranking plummeted #737.
The 42-year-old Daly says that he is hoping to make a few PGA Tour events also, if tour organizations and sponsors are willing to give him exemptions. He also indicated that he is …read more
Pairings to Watch at the PGA Championship
August 6, 2008 by Sandy Mitchell
The pairings for the first two days of play at the PGA Championship at Oakland Hills Country Club have been announced and their are several that merit watching. For sheer diversity and entertainment value, my money is on Vijay Singh (last week’s winner at the Bridgestone Invitational) with John Daly and David Toms. Depending on which John Daly shows up, this could be great golf or a disaster.
Other interesting pairings are:
Padraig Harrington, Trevor Immelman, and Angel Cabrera
Adam Scott, Ernie Els, and Fred Couples
Sergio Garcia, Anthony Kim, and Camilo Villegas
The complete list can be found on the PGA Championship Web site.
Johnny, We Hardly Know You
May 1, 2008 by Sandy Mitchell
John Daly just can’t seem to stay out of the news these days…and for all of the wrong reasons. The 42-year-old golfer has been struggling this year with health problems, rumors of a drinking problem, and members of his team abandonning ship. The latest bad press involves his doing an interview with a TV station in Branson, Missouri, where he is consulting on a golf course construction site. He appears on camera sans shirt and shoes–not a good look, John. You can’t help but compare that video to the picture of the wide-eyed rookie who won the PGA Championship …read more
Daly Withdraws from Shell Houston Open
April 5, 2008 by Sandy Mitchell
John Daly, who it may be charitably said is having a challenging season, withdrew yesterday from the Shell Houston Open after scoring a double bogey on the par-3 16th hole (his 7th hole in the round), citing a back injury. Daly, who was playing on a sponsor’s exemption, was very likely going to miss the cut.
This was the 9th start for Daly this season. The fan favorite backed out of the Bob Hope Classic with a rib injury, missed four cuts, and with asked to withdraw from the Arnold Palmer Invitational after he missed his Pro-Am tee time. …read more
John Daly: Quit Whining and Play
January 25, 2008 by Sandy Mitchell
Somehow it seems that everytime I try to watch golf, there’s John Daly on the tube explaining how he was wronged by the golf powers that be. Two weeks ago, he was upset about the PGA’s new cut rule that left him in the money, but off of television for the fourth and fifth rounds of the Sony Open. (Me thinks that Mr. Daly fails to open his mail from the PGA.)
Last week, he was giving a performance on the course worthy of any NBA all-star that’s trying to draw a foul. Reportedly in pain, Daly was treated at …read more
