Singh Wins FedEx Cup Kickoff Tournament

by Dale Chavez on January 7th, 2007

Vijay Singh started the PGA year off with a bang by winning the 2007 Mercedes Benz Championship at Kapalua by 2 over Adam Scott. It was obvious very early that Singh came to play well and even though Scott made a mini-run at him, this tournament was really Singh’s to lose.

I’m still trying to figure out all the hoopla surrounding Adam Scott. A couple of years ago, he was christened the next “Tiger Killer” and there were comparisons ad nauseum of his swing and Tiger’s and how Scott actually had the better technical swing. Blah blah blah. There’s no doubt that Scott is an extremely talented golfer. But so are a dozen other young guys (mostly non-American) that are probably more capable of winning a major this year.

And did you hear Vijay’s comment about golfing at 43 years old? On live tv, he said, “And to all those that think you’re too old at 43, you can go to hell!” Gotta love his spunk! Oh and Vijay also earned/won 4500 FedEx Cup points. I know; keep your excitement in check.
