Nancy Lopez Back On Tour?

I had to look twice, but sure enough, the article said that Nancy Lopez is planning on playing at least 5 events this year on the LPGA Tour. Granted, that hardly qualifies as being “on tour”, but nonetheless the 50-year-old retired golf professional is ready to try and compete with this generation of great golfers, at least on part-time basis.
Now, I watched Lopez when she came out on tour as a rookie and she had a phenomenal season winning five consecutive tournaments at one stretch. But to be honest, what I enjoyed even more was that she was beating the pants off Amy Alcott and Hollis Stacy, two pros who let it be known they despised Lopez, and all she stood for. The LPGA back then was rag-tag outfit of decent (but not great) players that got very limited TV time simply because the LPGA was not a marketer’s dream back then.
But Lopez was always known for her professionalism and her outstanding treatment of fans and sponsors, which is why she’s endeared herself to so many people over the years. But back to her attempt to play on tour this year; I’m not sure of the motive behind it. I don’t think length off the tee will be a factor, because some of the smaller Koreans are near the bottom of driving distance, but near the top in scoring average, and Lopez should be able to keep up with even the shortest hitters. Her problem will continue to be her putter. She was at best a streaky putter, but when she wasn’t putting well, it was not pretty. But you never say never, and she might be able to pull together a couple of good rounds and end up on the leaderboard.
