Congrat’s Weirsy !
Tiger Who?
Mike Weir proved to the naysayers that he isn’t intimidated by the world’s #1 player as he defeated Tiger Woods 1 up in the single matches of the President’s cup this afternoon in Montreal.
For most Canadian golf fans, I suspect the overall victory of the American team over the International squad mattered little compared to seeing our favorite pro golfer player come out on top in the “feature match”.
While I’m always happy to see Mike play well, I don’t consider this one of Mike’s “greatest victories” (as it’s being referred to by some of the more fanatical Weir fans in a couple of golf forums that I’ve visited). I still consider these “Cup” events to be no more than just exhibitions, compared to the “real” major championships, or even a regular tour event.
But who knows, Mike Weir might very well disagree, I’m sure that it must be a great thrill to beat the world’s best golfer, regardless of the circumstances.

As a fellow Canadian (though of the Prairies variety), I was absolutely glued to this totally meaningless match. That was drama you couldn’t have scripted. Golf is so good for that.

Hi T.O,
Thanks for stopping by.
In the grand scheme of things, all sports are pretty meaningless aren’t they?
Hopefully this win will infuse Mike with some extra confidence that he might draw on one day, perhaps even if happens to meet T.W in a “bigger” event.
