Chris Wood Turns Pro

by Sandy Mitchell on July 28th, 2008

Chris Wood

Just a week after his spectacular fifth place finish in the British Open, 20-year-old amateur, Chris Wood is joining the ranks of the pro golfers. The 6′ 5″ native of Bristol, England announced his intentions his morning. Wood won the Welsh National Amateur Championship earlier this year. He has already been invited to play in the British Masters, which will be held at The Belfry September 24 -28. I’m sure we’ll see more from this talented young golfer.

Ah, if only he was a professional during his week out at the Open he would have been able to add a cool 100,000 Pounds to his kitty. Having said that, he probably had the time of his life at Birkdale during this years Open Championship. At one point he loked like he had a serious shot at the championship. Unfortunately that was not to be but he impressed everybody with a very steady performance in tough conditions and under severe pressure. What obviously helped him was the fact that his father was on the bag and it did look like his old man managed to keep him calm when he was under scrutiny thanks to the millions of television viewers across the world who managed to tune into the final rounds play.

I personally feel what really helped him was the fact that his playing partner did not choose to shock him with another one of his crazy attires and turned up for the final round in a fairly sedate outfit considering his fairly eclectic taste. The most important reason for him to turn professional is to tell everyone that he has arrived specially his sister, who, if rumours are to be believed apparently texted him during his third round asking him “Are you still at that golf thingy?”
