Childhood Sports Memories

This week the b5media Sports Channel is sharing their favorite childhood sports memories. Although I’d like to be able to say that my earliest sports memory was swinging a golf club when it was taller than I was, the truth is I didn’t take up the game until I was in my early 20s.

That and I grew up in Columbus Ohio, which for those of you in other parts of the country means Ohio State Football. Before I could even master my multiplication tables, I could recite OSU player stats like a expert commentator.

The 1960s was the era of Woody Hayes and “three yards and a cloud of dust” and I delighted in going with my dad to the games to which he wasn’t taking clients. I didn’t care that it wasn’t the Michigan game; seeing Purdue or Illinois was fine with me. When I got older, I attended high school with running back, Archie Griffin, who would go on to win two Heisman Trophies while at Ohio State (the only person to every win twice). I was much younger than him, of course; he was a senior when I was a freshman.

Do you have a favorite childhood sports memory–golf-related or not? If so, share your experiences with Green Posse readers by leaving a comment below.
