For golfers, spring begins with the Masters Tournament at the Augusta National Course in Augusta Georgia. The course is already getting ready for the 2009 tournament, to be held April 6-12. To get you in the spirit of the Masters, here are a few facts about the event:
The first event was held in 1934, with Horton Smith winning the tournament.
The Masters was originally called the Augusta National Invitational Tournament.

Twenty-eight year-old Trevor Immelman from South Africa finished the fourth round with a 3 over par, but that was still good enough to win the tournament by three strokes over Tiger Woods, who will have to put his hopes for a grand slam on hold for at least a year.
This is the first major win for Immelman and only his second tour win. …read more

Trevor Immelman and Brandt Snedeker continued to play solid golf in round three of the Masters, while veterans Ian Poulter and Phil Mickelson had disappointing +3 rounds. Tiger Woods had one of the best days on the course, finishing with a -5 for the day. It’s exciting to see the young players leading the tournament, but don’t count Tiger out yet.
