Kim Welch Wins “Big Break”

In case you weren’t watching, Kim Welch beat out French golfer, Sophie Sandolo to win the Golf Channel’s “Big Break Kaanapali” reality golf competition. The prize package isn’t too shabby, possibly worth putting up with all of the cattiness this season.

Welsh wins entry into the 2008 Navistar LPGA Classic, which is being held in Prattville, Alabama September 25-28. She also gets a 2009 Futures Tour Card with all of the entry fees waived, a 2008 BMW Z4 coupe, and an Adams Golf endorsement that includes $10,000 in cash.

Big Break Kaanapali Begins

The ninth installment of the popular Golf Channel reality series, “Big Break,” begins tonight at 10pm ET. This time the cast is women, some with experience on the Futures and European tours. The twelve golfers will be competing for an exemption for an LGPA Tour event as well as cash, a car, and other prizes. The action all takes place in Maui.

April Golf Shows

Yes, golf season is approaching and golf show season is winding down, but there are still a few interesting shows in April, on both sides of the Atlantic. Here’s what’s going on:

New York International Golf Show, April 4-6, 2008. This three-day show at the Jacob Javits Center features golf clubs, golf balls, golf apparel, golf shoes, and golf training aids for sale to the general public. The show will also have golf courses and golf travel exhibits for patrons to explore and two, huge driving ranges, four golf simulators, and two putting challenges for prizes. Admission is $15 for adults, $5 for children 12 and under. The show is open Friday from noon to 10pm, Saturday from 10am to 10pm, and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
Mt. Clemens (MI) Spring Golf Show, April 4-6, 2008. This show features all things golf-related, including 1000s of items of golf gear and apparel and 100s of golf resort vendors. The show is open Friday from noon to 9pm, Saturday from 10am to 9pm, and Sunday from 10am to 6pm.
Scottish Golf Show, Edinburgh, April 4-6, 2008. Located at the Royal Highland Centre in Edinburgh, this show features the usual vendors as well as a golf simulator, golf trick shot exhibitions, a kids golf area, and indoor putting green, and lots more. Admission is £12. Children under 16 are free. The show is open Friday and Saturday from 930am to 6pm and on Sunday from 930am to 5pm.
London Golf Show, April 25-27, 2008. This huge show is the largest golf show in the UK. Held at the ExCel Centre at Royal Victoria Dock, the event draws a crowd of more than 40,000 patrons each year. Attractions include exhibitors, golf equipment testing areas, food and beverage vendors, and golf celebrities. The show is open Friday and Saturday from 10am to 5pm and on Sunday from 10am to 4pm.

The Michigan Golf Show

Golfers in Southeast Michigan can pretend like it’s golf season as well as learn about all the latest golf resorts and golf gear at the Michigan Golf Show, in Novi (outside of Detroit) March 7-9 and in Lansing March 14 -16. The show is one of the largest consumer golf shows in the United States and will feature scores of exhibitors, over 100 feet of hitting nets, a manufacturer’s demo area, free junior golf instruction, and even a free pancake breakfast for Sunday morning visitors in Novi.

The Novi show will be at the Rock Financial Showplace. Hours are Friday from 2pm – 9pm, Saturday from 9am – 8pm, and Sunday from 10am – 5pm. Admission is $10. Those age 12 and under are free. A printable discount coupon is available on the show’s Web site.

The Lansing show is being held at the Lansing Center. Hours are Friday from 2pm – 8pm, Saturday from 10am – 7pm, and Sunday from 10am – 4pm. Admission is $8 and free for seniors (62+) on Friday and for those 12 and under. A discount coupon is available for this show also.

Plan Now for the North Coast Golf Show

The North Coast Golf Show, which calls itself “America’s Favorite Golf Show,” begins its tour of the Northeast and Midwest shortly after New Year’s Day. The weekend show features a large marketplace of new and discounted golf merchandise, information on golf travel, a long-drive competition, golf celebrities, and a manufacturer’s demo range, where you can test the latest clubs.

Admission ranges from $8 to $10 per adult, depending on the city and includes a subscription to Golf Magazine. The following cities are scheduled:

Philadelphia – January 23 – 25 – Venue TBA
Washington DC – February 1 – 3 – Dulles Expo Center
Chicago – February 8 – 10 – Schaumburg Convention Center
