It may have just opened in June of 2007, but Chambers Bay Golf Course in Tacoma, Washington, won’t be an unknown for long. The Scottish-style, public course will be the site of the US Open in 2015, the USGA announced this morning. It will be the first time that the Open will be played in the Pacific Northwest.
Chambers Bay, located along Lower Puget Sound, offers views of the water and the Olympic Mountains. It was rated the “Best New Course” of 2007 by “Golf Magazine” and received honors in “Travel + Leisure’s” reader’s poll.

Get to know Pebble Beach, the course where the AT&T National Pro-Am National is being played this week. The video below, produced by “The Best of California,” follows four actors, mere mortals like us, as they play the Pebble Beach course, take a golf lesson there, and enjoy the resort amenitites and the spectacular view.

The PGA heads to San Diego County’s Torrey Pines Country Club this week for the Buick Invitational Golf Tournament. The event is especially noteworthy in that the Tour’s two top players–Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson–are making their season debut there. The tournament will also be good preparation for the US Open that will be played on the same course in June.

As snow descends on much of the Midwest and Northeastern United States, it’s encouraging to look at one of the areas of the country where you can play golf twelve months out of the year–Palm Springs. One of the best resorts there is the Hyatt Grand Champions, in Indian Wells California, just outside of Palm Springs. Espn.com’s golf channel recently listed their picks for the top golf courses in the world. They also asked for reader’s comments and choices. Among the predictable (but still spectacular) courses was one with which I was unfamiliar — Bandon Dunes in Oregon.
This scenic resort, with three championship courses, is located along the craggy Oregon coastline, about 2.5 hours by car from Eugene.
The three 18-hole courses there, the first of which opened in 1999, are designed after the great Scottish courses, and the Oregon coastal plain bears a strong resemblance to golf’s birthplace. The courses are “walking only” courses and …read more

One of the most dramatic golf courses in the United States is the course at the Boulders Resort, located about 30 minutes outside of Phoenix. This spot is aptly named as the hotel and golf course are carved out of huge sand-colored rocks. Facilities include two championship, 18-hole golf courses, a golf school, a full spa, and an award-winning restaurant.
