Kim Latest Recruit to European Tour

Ryder Cup team member, Anthony Kim is the latest PGA player to commit to playing on the European Tour in 2009. Kim, 23, won two PGA tournaments in 2008 and is currently ranked #8 in the world. Camilo Villegas and Geoff Ogilvy have previously announced that they will compete on both tours. Phil Mickelson is expected to join them.
European members must play 12 times, including six tournaments in America–three majors and three World Golf Championships.

European Tour Increases Number of Required Events

The European Tour will require its members to compete in at least 12 events, beginning with the 2009 season, tour officials announced on Tuesday. This is one more than was required this season. The four major championships and the three World Golf Championships all count towards this number.
This move comes at a time when several top US players, including Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh are considering European Tour membership. Daly Considering European Tour

John Daly, the two-time major champion whose been in the news lately more for his antics than for his golf, told the Associated Press this week that he’s considering joining the European Tour for the 2009 season. Daly, who has blamed his less than stellar performance of late to a rib injury, made just five cuts in 16 events this year, earning $56,017. His world ranking plummeted #737.

Fernandez-Castano Wins British Masters

Twenty-seven year-old Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano out putted veteran, Lee Westwood in a third playoff hole on Sunday to win the British Masters tournament. This is the fourth European tour win for the Spainard, who celebrated his victory by taking a dip in the lake that front the final green at The Belfry in England’s West Midlands region.
Michael Campbell, the 2005 US Open champion finished third.
Castano turned pro in 2004 after winning the 2003 Spanish Amateur Championship in 2003.

Karlsson Wins the Germany’s Mercedes Benz Championship

Sweden’s Robert Karlsson bested Italy’s Francesco Molinari by two strokes on Sunday to win the European Tour’s Mercedes Benz Championship, played in Cologne, Germany. This is the eighth European Tour win for Karlsson and his first victory in more than two years. That should give him a little momentum going into this week’s Ryder Cup competition.
Fellow Ryder Cup team member, Miguel Angel Jimenz finished third.
