Can Ochoa Hang On?

by Dale Chavez on October 4th, 2006

Lorena Ochoa still leads the LPGA money list by almost $100,000 over Karrie Webb and almost $200,000 over Annika Sorenstam, but both Webb and Sorenstam have played somewhat more consistent as of late, and the player of the year is also up for grabs this late in the season.

Ochoa almost has to win this weekend in Mexico at the Corona Morelia Championship, in order to close out the player of the year and money titles. If Webb or Sorenstam finish ahead of Ochoa, then more than likely, she’ll get passed on both lists as she isn’t playing as many closing tournaments.

Even if she wins one or both titles, (or neither), she’ll have to win at least one major tournament next year to be considered an equal to Sorenstam and Webb. She was close this year and I believe she got a lot of confidence out this year, but she’s got to bring it to another level, and I think she will.
