After the second round of the Frys.com Open Garrett Willis, D.J. Trahan and
George McNeill, are tied for the lead at 13-under.
Further evidence of the “birdifest” is that the next ten players on the leader board are all each at least -10.
The amazing thing is that these thirteen players average position on the money list is 134th, with Garrett Willis, John Huston and Bob May all making appearances from the depths of the “200+” money club.
Are some P.G.A. tour setups, just too darn easy?

The most common reason I see golfers not able to keep their “head down” (i.e. stable spine angle), is that their body motion is often almost non-existent, the motion being “all arms”, the cause usually being “dead legs” , i.e. “flat footed” or “locked up” knees.
If a (relatively) forceful swing of the arms is made through the ball, and the body and legs do not turn out of the way, then *some part* of the body has to absorb the momentum built up.

For a new golfer, the idea of swinging the club which then hits the ball versus hitting the ball with the club might seem to be one and the same, but they are very different concepts, and using one versus the other can result in drastically different motions, and habits, which can sometime take a very long time .. or never to change.

There are various versions of the “Only God can hit a 1 iron”, classic golf joke:
“And then there’s this idea, suggested by legendary professional Lee Trevino,
which epitomizes most players’ feelings about the 1-iron: “If you’re caught on
a golf course during a storm and are afraid of lightning, hold up a 1-iron. Not
even God can hit a 1-iron.”

The 1 iron is the ultimate “ego” club in golf, and it deserves to be, as it is a difficult, if not impossible club to hit well for the average golfer.

Following his playoff loss in last week’s  Valero  Texas Open, Jesper Parnevik is back in the field for this week’s stop on the PGA tour, the Fry’s.com Open.   With the huge amount of money that’s available these days on the tour,  one or two good showings is all it takes to make a very lucrative year for these guys.

Over the past 30 years or so that I’ve been golfing I’ve only had one hole in one.
Heck, I guess some people never get one, so I shouldn’t complain
My hole in one came about at Islington Golf club in Etobicoke, way back in the late 1970’s, playing early one morning with some other assistant pro’s. It was the 5th hole, playing at around 180 yards and I think I hit a four iron.

On one of the golf forums, someone wrote that Tiger “obviously” threw the match with Mike Weir in yesterday’s President’s cup matches. I’ll leave that ludicrous statement alone, but the poster also mentioned that Mike had been playing “lousy” all year.

Mike Weir proved to the naysayers that he isn’t intimidated by the world’s #1 player as he defeated Tiger Woods 1 up in the single matches of the President’s cup this afternoon in Montreal.
