An Under-30 American in the Hunt!
Stranger things have happened, but an under-30 American player is leading the Sony Open in Hawaii after three rounds. Charles Howell III shot a brilliant round 65 and leads Luke Donald by one heading into the final round. I’ve watched Howell since he came out on tour a few years ago and this is probably the most consistent round he’s played in quite a while.
However, the tournament is far from over and he’s got Luke (what, me humble) Donald nipping at his heels, and if I were a betting man, I’d have to put money on Donald. Simply because he’s been there more often and has that coming-down-the-stretch experience that is critical when trying to close the deal.
Either way, it should be a good finish tomorrow to a tournament that is lacking some excitement for some odd reason.
