Americans Letting Their Hair Down
Well, it appears from wire reports that the Americans are finally letting their hair down at a Ryder Cup match. The team went out today to practice together and while they played with their potential partners for part of the day, Lehman had another surprise before they were finished.
On the 7th hole, which has penninsula green, Lehman had them stop short of the water and from there, they had to skip the ball off the water, over the rocks and onto the green. Each had varying degrees of success, but in the end, David Toms won their mini-Skins game. In the grand scheme of the things, this may not seem to be that big of a deal, but you need to understand that the Americans typically approach the Ryder Cup (in recent memory) as nothing more than an exhibition and at best they seemed annoyed to be there.
However, kudos to Tom Lehman for getting these guys to at least pretend they’re a team for a few days. Will all this make a difference in the end? Hard to say, but probably not, only because it’s not a contact sport and only one guy can hit a shot at a time, and the end, aren’t they independent contractors?
