Tiger Out ’til the US Open
May 26, 2008 by Sandy Mitchell

Tiger Woods will be sitting out the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Country Club in Dublin, Ohio this week. He is still recovering from his arthroscopic knee surgery on April 15. His next likely appearance will be in the US Open at Torrey Pines, which starts on June 9.
Said Muirfield tournament director, Dan Sullivan, “We were excited to have Tiger play this year, but understand he still has some recuperating to do.”

That sucks!
Well it is sad to see Woods missing out on a few tournaments in a year which was being touted as possibly the best Tiger Woods year in golf and that would be some taking. At the start of the season everyone was talking about the potential Grand Slam. Unfortunately the first major of the year put a lid on that talk with Tiger unable to match the standards set by Trevor Immelman through the four days.
A few weeks before that, all talk was about a “Tiger unbeaten in 08’ record but even that was not going to happen. But that is when we are talking Tiger standards. Despite the obvious “failures” or shall we say his inability to live up to our expectations from Tiger Woods this was going to be a bumper year for Tiger. Perhaps it still might be but this injury surely does put a question mark on that.
I can assure you, if Tiger comes back from injury and wins the U.S. Open it would be close to unbelievable and Tiger has flirted with that line more than just once. Let’s just hope when he returns to competitive golf he is close to his ‘A’ game because it would be a shame if his quest for a historic season on tour is laid low by an injury. I guess we will just have to wait and watch.
