Hot off of her seven stroke win Sunday at the Michelob Ultra Open in Kingsmill, Virginia, Annika Sorenstam announced today that she will be retiring from professional golf at the end of the 2008 season. The Dubai Ladies Masters in December will be her last event.

The 37-year-old Sorenstam cited shifting priorities as her reason for leaving the tour. That makes sense as she is engaged to Mike McGee later this year. At her press conference, she said: “I am very, very proud of what I’ve achieved. Golf has been great to me. I’ve achieved more than I thought I could. I have given it all, and it’s been fun.”

Sorenstam is one of just three women with more than 70 LPGA tour wins (she currently has 72).
