The Hottest Guys on the PGA Tour

The Hottest Guys on the PGA Tour

It’s not unusual to see articles about the sexy girls of the LPGA, like Natalie Gublis and Michelle Wie. However, little is written about the guys on the PGA Tour. Those who stereotype might say that male golfers are all boring, white guys with beer bellies. I don’t think that’s a fair representation. In my opinion, there are plenty of hot guys on the tour, including my picks (in alphabetical order) for the top eight:

Stewart Cink is tall (6′4″) and a solid golfer, with 4 PGA wins since joining the tour in 1995. He …read more

Phil and Annika Win the Weekend

Phil and Annika Win the Weekend

It was a good weekend for golf’s wannabe top-ranked players. Phil Mickelson, who’s been struggling so far this season and even failed to make the cut at the AT&T at Pebble Beach, won the Northern Trust Open by two strokes over Jeff Quinney. It was his 33rd PGA win.
On the LPGA circuit, Annika Sorenstam showed that she’s brought her game for 2008. She won the SBS Open, the first LPGA event for the season, handily with two birdies on the last two holes. The win was an impressive #70 for Annika.
If this weekend was any indication, we’ll …read more

A Presidents Day Golf Quiz

A Presidents Day Golf Quiz

In the spirit of today being Presidents Day, Golf Girl’s Diary’s Patricia Hannigan has created a quiz about presidents and golf. Visit her site to see how much you know about presidential golf.
If you’re curious about how the candidates feel about golf, see my post from last month. Unfortunately, most of the golfers in the group are back on the course and off the campaign trail.

Be a Part of Next Season’s “Big Break”

Be a Part of Next Season’s “Big Break”

With their 9th edition about to start on April 15, the Golf Channel is looking for contestants for the 10th edition. This time they are looking for teams of two. No mention of whether this episode will feature female or male players; perhaps it’s mixed this time.
Both members of the team must be a 3 handicap or better and be available for three weeks during the summer of 2008. To download an application, visit the Golf Channel’s Web site.
The site doesn’t list the prizes, but this season’s winner (in the all-female competition) gets a chance to play in an …read more

PGA Cut Rule in Jeopardy?

PGA Cut Rule in Jeopardy?

It’s only February, but the new PGA cut rule may soon be changed. Rule 78, which began this season, reduces the tournament field to 78 players for the final two days. This differs from the rule that’s been in effect since 1969, which made the cut at the top 70 players plus ties. The new policy left 18 players at the Sony Open and 19 at the Buick Inviational in the money, but unable to play in the Saturday and Sunday rounds. (that’s the MDF–made the cut; did not finish–you may have seen.)
A 16-member player advisory committee recommended …read more

Who is Steve Lowery?

Who is Steve Lowery?

I love these stories. Probably because I’m a lot closer in age to Steve Lowery than to Tiger Woods. Lowery, at 47, just moved up 189 spots in the world golf rankings this week, from 305 to 116, with his playoff win over Vijay Singh at the AT&T Pro-Am National Tournament in Pebble Beach.
Just who is Steve Lowery? The University of Alabama graduate is no stranger to the PGA circuit. This is his 25th year on the tour. Wins, however, have alluded him in the last few years. His last win before …read more

The Northern Trust Open

The Northern Trust Open

The PGA Tour heads to the Northern Trust Open this week. If you’re like me, you’re shaking your head at this one. No, it’s not a new event, it’s just one of those renamed, repackaged tournaments. Remember the Nissan Open…and the Los Angeles Open before that? That event is now the Northern Trust Open–new sponsor, new name.
Leading the field at southern California’s Riviera Country Club will be defending champion, Charles Howell III as well as recent tour winners, J B Holmes, Daniel Chopra, and Steve Lowery.
The Northern Trust Open tees up on Thursday and concludes on …read more

The ladies of the LPGA begin the 2008 season this week in Hawaii at the SBS Open, played on the Arnold Palmer Course at Turtle Bay Resort in Hawaii. The field of 138 golfers, led by defending champion Paula Creamer, includes Annika Sorenstam, Suzann Petterson, and Natalie Gublis. Top-ranked Lorena Ochoa is sitting this week out.
The three-day tournament begins on Thursday, February 14 and concludes on Saturday. It is being broadcast on the Golf Channel each evening.

New Tacoma Course Awarded 2015 US Open

New Tacoma Course Awarded 2015 US Open

It may have just opened in June of 2007, but Chambers Bay Golf Course in Tacoma, Washington, won’t be an unknown for long. The Scottish-style, public course will be the site of the US Open in 2015, the USGA announced this morning. It will be the first time that the Open will be played in the Pacific Northwest.
Chambers Bay, located along Lower Puget Sound, offers views of the water and the Olympic Mountains. It was rated the “Best New Course” of 2007 by “Golf Magazine” and received honors in “Travel + Leisure’s” reader’s poll.
