Holmes Bests Mickelson for FBR Open Title

J B Holmes

While Tiger was dazzling the crowds in Dubai and most of the United States was watching the Super Bowl in Glendale, Arizona, J B Holmes was just down the road in Scottsdale giving the world’s #2 golfer, Phil Mickelson, a formidable challenge.

The 25-year-old, three-year pro from Kentucky, birdied the 18th hole with a 13-foot putt to force a play-off between the two golfers for the FBR Open title. It was a hole that Holmes hadn’t been able to birdie all week. But, when your hot, you’re hot. They played the 18th again for the play-off hole and Holmes birdied again to win the tournament.

This is the second time that J B Holmes has won the FBR Open in just three starts. Looks like he’s another young player to keep an eye on.
