New Year’s Resolutions for Golfers
Yes, it’s halfway through January, but golf season has yet to begin in most parts of the United States. “Golf Tips with Joe Beck” offers a thoughtful list of resolutions in their recent newsletter. He offers these thoughts:
1) Take a Trip to another Course or Historical Site
Within the U.S., take yourself to either Pebble Beach, Bandon Dunes, or Pinehurst. These are 3 fun, special resorts available at different price points. If you’re up for international travel, I recommend visiting the “home of golf” – St. Andrews of Scotland – and playing the old course. There, you can see where golf started and soak up the game’s history and tradition.2) Read a Great Golf Book
My recommendations are: “Down the Fairway” by Bobby Jones, “It’s Only a Game” by Jackie Burke or “The Little Red Book” by Harvey Penick3) Invest in New Equipment
Make sure you are properly fitted for your equipment by an expert (if possible – a PGA professional). That person should fit you from head to toe and make sure you have the right size shoes, gloves, balls and the correct clubs – complete with proper head, loft, shaft, grip and club size.4) Give Back and Introduce New People to the Game
Help grow the game by lending your support to a local charity. I recommend “First Tee,” which gives young people a chance to develop life skills through the game of golf. They have chapters all over the country, so you should be able to find one in your city or state.5) Go Watch Tiger Woods Play
He is the Michael Jordan of golf and is currently playing better than anybody else on earth. If you love golf, you have got to go see him play live at least once. It does not get any better.
Joe’s Web site also offers a number of instructional videos on all aspects of golf, including hitting out of a sand trap, the Flop Shot, and the iron tee shot. Look for more of Joe Beck’s video’s on Green Posse in the weeks to come.
