Woods’ Wife Wins Apology, Damages from Irish Tabloid

December 11, 2007 by Sandy Mitchell

It seems that the US doesn’t have the monopoly on sleazy journalism. Friday, an Irish magazine, “The Dubliner,” apologized to Elin Nordegren, the wife of golfer Tiger Woods, for publishing fake, nude photos of the former model.

The photographs, purportedly taken during the 2006 Ryder Cup, used another women’s body. News agency, Reuters quotes the magazine’s publisher, Trevor White, as saying the article was “cheap, tasteless, and deliberately offensive.” One wonders about the publication’s editorial control.

Ms. Nordegren didn’t comment on the amount of the damages, but the Reuters article cites a court room source as giving the amount at $182,000. Nordegren has said that she will give the money to support cancer charities in the memory of Heather Clarke, the late wife of British golfer Darren Clarke.
