The PGA Tour: What’s Coming in January
A new PGA Tour season is almost here. The first event starts on January 3. I always like the beginning of the season, in part because they play at such lovely courses, like Kapalua in Maui and Torrey Pines in San Diego. Below are the tournaments scheduled for January:
January 3 – 6 – Mercedes-Benz Championship – Originally called the Tournament of Champions, this event has been a PGA fixture since 1953. It’s played at the Plantation Course of the Kapalua Resort in Maui. TV: Golf Channel
January 10 – 13 – Sony Open in Hawaii – Formerly called the Hawaiian Open, this event began in 1965. It will be played at the Waialae Country Club in Honolulu. TV: Golf Channel
January 17 – 20 – Bob Hope Chrysler Classic hosted by George Lopez – Comedian George Lopez keeps the tradition, started by Bob Hope in 1960, alive. The event will be played at The Classic Club, PGA West on the LaQuinta and Silver Rock courses. TV: Golf Channel
January 24 – 27 – Buick Invitational – This event is held at San Diego’s Torrey Pines Course Golf (pictured above with Tiger Woods). TV: Golf Channel/CBS
January 31 – February 3 – FBR Open – Formerly the Phoenix Open and the Arizona Open, this event has been around since 1932. It will be played on the TPC Scottsdale course in Scottsdale, Arizona. TV: Golf Channel/CBS.
