December 29, 2007 by Sandy Mitchell

Lorena Ochoa, the 26-year old LPGA golfer from Guadalajara, Mexico, was named the female athlete of the year for 2007 by the Associated Press, for the second time in as many years. Ochoa, the #1 ranked player on the LPGA Tour in 2007, won her first major tournament, the Women’s British Open at St. Andrews, this season and became the first female golfer to surpass the $4 million mark in earnings.

With the honor, Ochoa joins the ranks of such star athletes as fellow LPGA golfer Annika Sorenstam and tennis star Serena Williams.
