Despite Woody Austin's heroic attempt from the water, Mike Weir's victory over Tiger Woods gave the Canadians a lot to cheer about and now it seems high on confidence after that victory he has finally ended a 3 and a half year drought on the PGA Tour. His last win came in early 2004 at the Nissan Open. Many had started to assume that the Green Jacket at Augusta was just a flash in the pan and he was unlikely to be playing anywhere near that level. It looked like he did not feel upto it mentally. But fierce determination coupled with strong local support helped him overcome Tiger's challenge at the Royal Montreal. That probably gave him just the right fillip he needed and now a win on tour definitely reaffirms the belief the Canadian is very much there in the middle of the action.
