Shootout At The Honda Classic

There’s a shootout happening at the Honda Classic and it’s in the form of a four-way playoff between Camilo Villegas, Jose Coceres, Boo Weekly, and Mark Wilson. They finished one playoff hole (all tied) but unfortunately, it’s been suspended until Monday morning because of darkness. What a final round it was though as Boo Weekly and had a chance to win in regulation if he would have made a 3-foot putt on 18, but it wasn’t to be.

Mark Wilson gets the clutch-putter-of-the-week award for sure as he kept draining par putts to keep himself alive coming in on the back nine. Just when you thought Wilson was out of it, he’d drain another huge putt to stay in it. And it really was between Wilson and Weekly most of the day, but both made unfortunate mistakes coming in and let the others back in the tournament.

And even though Villegas should consider himself somewhat lucky for being in the playoff, he too had more than one opportunity to make some birdie putts that would have given him the lead, but his putting stroke at times looked questionable, especially from about 8 to 10 feet or so. Jose Coceres played some excellent approach shots as well, and more than anything else, I like his style of play, which is to take a quick look and pull the trigger. What a refreshing approach!
