Annika Trailing In Mexico

In her 2007 debut, Annika Sorenstam is trailing Meaghan Francella by five shots at the 2007 MasterCard Classic Honoring Alejo Peralta in Huixquilucan, Mexico. However, the 2nd round has been postponed due to darkness and a weather delay.

Natalie Gulbis is 5 back, and Lorena Ochoa is six back heading into the completion of the 2nd round on Sunday. I’m curious to see how Annika plays this week because rumors have been rampant that she’s ready to walk away from the game either next year or 2009. She was even quoted yesterday as saying she forgot her scorecard on the first tee after she was halfway down the first fairway. Simple mistake for sure, but also just means her mind was someplace else, at least momentarily.

It’s very early in the LPGA season and Paula Creamer has already won, but the way I see it, Gulbis, Ochoa, Sorenstam, and Kerr need to stay on pace because Creamer certainly has the talent to rattle off multiple wins. And what’s happened to Christina Kim? She was a top-10 lock a few years ago at almost every tournament and now she’s fallen off the face of the LPGA. She lost a lot of weight last year and it was supposed to be her breakthrough year. My brother Gary and I followed Kim for a few holes at the U.S. Open in Denver a couple of years ago and her acceleration through the hitting area is incredible. TV doesn’t do it justice.
