Pebble Beach Pro-Am

February 6, 2007 by admin

This week is the Pebble Beach Pro-Am on the Monterey Penninsula, and while some touring pros look forward to the event, there are others that avoid this like the plague. One of those is Tiger Woods. The official word is the Tiger doesn’t like the bumpy greens, but the unofficial word is that he detests (as do others) the 5 and 6-hour rounds that are common place this week.

Having had the pleasure of playing Pebble Beach a few years ago, I can see where the amateurs can really hold the pace of play if they’re not playing well. And who can blame them?! The course is a storied layout with tons of history attached to it, and it’s easy to get caught up in all that, and the beauty of the penninsula as well. They’ve also added Course-cams to their web site that should be fun to watch during the week.

The weather forecast this week appears to be mild (by Monterey standards) with temps in the low 60s most of the week. I look for Vijay Singh to be a factor this week as it appears he’s fixed his putting woes. And Phil? It’s hard to say because he’s struggled immensely this year so far, but I wouldn’t necessarily count him out.
