Tiger Wins, Again

Yes, it’s a silly season event, played at Tiger Woods unoficiall home course in California, but Mr. Woods won yet again in 2007. This time, Woods came from behind to shoot 66 and win by 4, the Target World Challenger, over a fading Geoff Ogilvy, who was leading by two heading into the final round. While this is not a Tour Championship field by any stretch, it’s still a pretty good field and Tiger had to have his good stuff today to win.

I’ve said this before here, but I’m not convinced all of Tiger’s peers really appreciate what he’s accomplishing. It’s not that anyone said anything close to disparaging this week, nor should they all play for second place and assume it’s his tournament to lose, but I think a little more respect for what he continues to do is in order.

Jack Nicklaus was my idol in my formative golf years, and I still hold Nicklaus in very high regard because I was fortunate enough to watch him live a few times and countless times on tv. But barring any strange event that might affect Woods, look for him to surpass Nicklaus’ major win record. It may take him a while, but there’s no one on the horizon that has the moxy to overtake Tiger at this point. Maybe there’s a 5-year old somewhere that’s the next Tiger, but there’s certainly no one on the PGA or European tours at this point.

Enjoy what Tiger is doing, because someday, like Michael Jordan, Tiger will retire and all we’ll have left are videos of his amazing career.
