Els Finally Wins One

Ernie Els finally got a win under his belt by shooting a 7-under 65 to beat Trevor Immelman by three shots at the South African Airways Open in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. It’s been a tough 18 months for Els and I think he was more seriously hurt than he let on. However, it appears he’s starting to trust his lower body (specifically his knee) and swing with confidence again.

I’d really like to see the Big Easy challenge in the majors next year and give Tiger a run for the tournaments that really matter. Els has an incredible touch around the greens for a big man and his ability to get up and down from difficult places is surpassed only by Woods and Mickelson. Recall when he won the Open Championship a couple of years ago that he got up and down from two bunkers that were almost impossible to get on the green, much less tap in distance.

While were at it, maybe Retief Goosen can return to form and we can have the big 4 once again battling against each.
