The Tour Championship – And The Point Is…

November 4, 2006 by admin

Okay, I watched the third round of the Tour Championship today and while the golf was decent, it reminded me more of the annual Skins game that’s played this same month every year, only the Skins game is meant to be light-hearted and fun by design. That’s not to suggest that the players weren’t trying (Vijay shot a 65), but they clearly appeared to be just taking a walk in the park waiting for the checks to be signed on Sunday.

On the one hand, who can blame them. This is an elite field of the top 30 players and they’ve earned the right to be here, but it’s nothing like a real “championship”, and more of an exhibition than anything. In any case, Adam Scott is lucky to be leading by three over Joe Durant and Vijay Singh because he bladed his 2nd shot at the par 5 15th and ended up with a kick-in eagle. Better to be lucky than good. Sadly, I’ll be watching the final round tomorrow.
