The B5Media network:

Sometimes, The Media…

Okay, let me rant for a bit here. I’ve read numerous golf columns and blogs since this past weekend, and the overwhelming sentiment is that Karrie Webb should be the LPGA Player of the Year, and not Lorena Ochoa. Webb has had an outstanding year (second only to Ochoa) and she does have a major win in her pocket. But I think the majority of those that think Webb is more deserving are clearly viewing this from a sentimental perspective.

Yes, it’s good too see Webb winning again, but Ochoa simply had the more consistent year, as confirmed by the Player of the Year points system (and that’s not to say it couldn’t be tweaked). The media got all excited this year because Webb, Se Ri Pak, and Annika Sorenstam all played exceptional golf, but let’s face it, the LPGA is getting younger every year, and that’s a good thing.
