Inkster Leads LPGA Tournament

Inkster Leads LPGA Tournament

Julie Inskter shot a 5-under 67 and finds herself tied with Moira Dunn at the Mitchell Company LPGA Tournament of Champions in Mobile, Alabama. Cristie Kerr is one back, Paula Creamer two back, and Lorean Ochoa is three back heading into Saturday. Ochoa needs to have a great tournament in order to keep the pressure on Sorenstam for player of the year.
Paula Creamer needs to try and salvage her year by winning as well as she’s been injured and has had the typical sophmore jinx that accompanies most players. Kerr has had a very good year, though …read more

Woods Seven Back

Woods Seven Back

Tiger Woods finds himself seven shots back at the HSBC Champions in Shanghai, China. After watching the first round last night, it’s evident Woods is very rusty after his layoff, and who wouldn’t be? However, it’s no secret that Woods is getting a fairly large appearance fee for participating in this tournament, so it’s not like he’s trying to make a check so he won’t be late on his mortgage.
As I’ve mentioned here before, it’s really a pleasure watching and listening to the European broadcasts. They convey so much by saying so little!

Groovin’ To The Clubs

Groovin’ To The Clubs

If you’re a golf nerd, then you’re aware of the debate that’s been going on for at least a decade or so about the type of grooves clubmakers are allowed to create on the face of irons. Currently, clubmakers are allowed to manufacture irons with u-shaped grooves on the face of irons. So what you ask? What it means for skilled golfers is that when they hit shots from the rough they can still create spin on the ball, which in turn will cause the ball to stop quicker on the green.
In other words, with typical …read more

Faldo and Norman Reunite

Faldo and Norman Reunite

The Golf Channel aired an “exclusive” interview on Monday night with Greg Norman and Nick Faldo, hosted by Vince Cellini. It was an interesting show in that Norman was interviewed first by himself and Cellini threw him mostly softballs that Norman handled very deftly (I’m shocked). The thing that struck me most is that Norman will not say anything that resembles a compliement about Tiger Woods.
I’ve said before that there’s something Norman doesn’t like about Tiger and it was evident again on Monday. It’s got to be competitive jealousy that’s eating at Norman. He’s got …read more

Ryder Cup Points System Changed

Ryder Cup Points System Changed

The PGA made it official today and announced that Paul Azinger would be the Ryder Cup captain for the 2008 team. However, the more interesting part of the news conference was the announcement that how points are earned is changing drastically. Instead of earning points by finishing in the top 10 over two years, the 2008 team will rely heavily on how players perform in the majors.
In fact, for the 2008 season, points can only be earned in the four major championships: Masters, U.S. Open, Open Championship, and PGA Championship. While I applaud the PGA …read more

Scott Wins Tour Championship

Scott Wins Tour Championship

Adam Scott closed the deal today and win the PGA’s Tour Championship by 3 shots over Jim Furyk. Scott took control early in the day and had a pretty easy time of it in the end. The 2006 PGA season is now officially over and all that’s left are silly season events and guaranteed money type events that are meant to line the pockets of the world’s best players.
Look for the hype to begin for the 2007 FedEx Cup Championship season fairly quickly if you watch the Golf Channel. I’m going to make a prediction and say …read more

The Tour Championship – And The Point Is…

The Tour Championship – And The Point Is…

Okay, I watched the third round of the Tour Championship today and while the golf was decent, it reminded me more of the annual Skins game that’s played this same month every year, only the Skins game is meant to be light-hearted and fun by design. That’s not to suggest that the players weren’t trying (Vijay shot a 65), but they clearly appeared to be just taking a walk in the park waiting for the checks to be signed on Sunday.
On the one hand, who can blame them. This is an elite field of the top 30 players …read more

Tom Pernice Jr. Speaks His Mind

Tom Pernice Jr. Speaks His Mind

I’ve never been a huge fan of Tom Pernice Jr., especially after calling the tour police a couple of years ago after watching Tiger on TV blasting his drives past Mickelson and wanting the tour to test Tiger’s driver for compliancy, but he showed a different side yesterday at the Tour Championship.
He was asked about the FedEx Cup “playoff” format for next year and he fired a shot across the bow of the PGA Tour. The gist of Pernice’s comments are that he’s upset that for next year’s FedEx Cup “playoffs”, the tournament fields will remain the same for …read more

Paul Azinger To Be Named Ryder Cup Captain

Paul Azinger To Be Named Ryder Cup Captain

The word has been leaked that Paul Azinger will be named the Ryder Cup Captain for the 2008 team. When the European Tour announced that Nick Faldo was going to be their captain, then it was pretty much a lock that Azinger would be the U.S. Captain. Faldo and Azinger go back to their playing days as not-so-friendly competitors which is why their teaming up on ABC golf telecasts was good for golf and tv.
However, I can’t help believe that the upcoming Ryder Cup matches will be as much about the captains as it is about the Ryder …read more

Big Break VI – Episode 6

Big Break VI – Episode 6

I suppose it was going to happen sooner or later, but good-guy Albert Crews was elminated on the latest episode of Big Break VI at Trump National Golf Club. This episode was part 2 of last week’s when the women beat the men and sent them to the elimination challenge this week. The only twist was that one of the previously eliminated men was allowed to play his way back on the show.

Albert struggled from the get-go on this show and it became apparent that this was probably going to be his swan song. Too bad because …read more
