The 2nd-Tier Players on the PGA

The 2nd-Tier Players on the PGA

I was watching the third round of the FUNAI Classic at the Walt Disney World Resort this afternoon and a couple of things struck me. One is that the silly season has started on the PGA Tour, which means that a lot of movement up the PGA money list can be accomplished with a good tournament, and that’s because all of the big guns have pretty much called it a season, save for the Tour Championship in a couple of weeks.
The other thing that caught my attention is that watching the 2nd-tier players on the PGA is somewhat different than …read more

A Good Round Of Golf

A Good Round Of Golf

Have you ever thought about what really constitutes a good round of golf? There are many variables and dynamics that make up a round of golf, some good and some bad, but they both come with the package. I was thinking about this the other day driving home from work and a “good round of golf” has a different meaning than it did 4 or 5 years ago.
For me personally, a good round of golf means really enjoying the good shots when they come, but probably more importantly, enjoying the company of the guys I’m playing with. …read more

Wie’s Team Changes Again

Wie’s Team Changes Again

Michelle Wie has do deal with yet another change on her team, as long-time agent Ross Berlin resigned from the Wie camp to take a position with his old employer, the PGA Tour. Greg Nared, a 15-year Nike employee will now assume the role on Wie’s team. There’s been lots of speculation about the resignation of Berlin, but nothing official from Berlin himself.
Here’s the official press release:

Big Break VI – Episode 4

Big Break VI – Episode 4

Somehow, this version of the Big Break doesn’t have the intensity of past shows. Perhaps it’s because there are too many competitors and we only get to see a couple of shots from each? And it’s also hard to get behind any particular player because you don’t really know how good or bad they really are.

This week’s episode pitted the men against the men, and women against the women, and it was the best episode to date. The Immunity Challenge showcased a tremendous comeback from Bri Vega, Ashley Gomes, and Bridget Dwyer when it looked like they …read more

A Place for Clone Clubs?

A Place for Clone Clubs?

I was doing some surfing on the ‘net looking for a good place to buy some golf balls and I ran across golfknockoff.com. (Note: I have no affiliation with this web site.) I have no idea what the quality or workmanship of these clubs are, but for the price, it might be worth it to try a hybrid or two.
They seem to have every type of clone you can imagine, from drivers, to fairway metals, and hybrids to irons. While I’m not in the market for a set of irons, I might be persuaded to try a …read more

Where’s Paula?

Where’s Paula?

It’s been a strange year for Paula Creamer. After her sensational start last year as a rookie, everyone thought she’d contend in all the majors and actually win one. No one thought she’d go this far into the season without a win. To be honest, she hasn’t even sniffed the the winner’s trophy this year, but in fairness to Creamer, she was injured for the better part of the first half with a wrist injury.
Of course, no one knows more than the athlete how injured they really are, and how they can ultimately play when injured. …read more

Ochoa Goes Toe-To-Toe With Sorenstam – And Wins

Ochoa Goes Toe-To-Toe With Sorenstam – And Wins

Lorena Ochoa went 15 rounds with Annika Sorenstam and ended up scoring a TKO by shooting 7-under and beating Sorenstam by 2 shots at the Samsung World Championship. Whenever Sorenstam birdied, Ochoa countered with a birdie of her own, and in some cases Ochoa would roll one in first and put the pressure on Sorenstam to match.
It was great to see Ochoa play well when the heat was on against the best women’s player in the world, and know I think she’ll have the confidence next year to close the deal and win a major championship. Unfortunately, the …read more

Arnold Palmer Says Good-Bye

Arnold Palmer Says Good-Bye

Arnold Palmer has finally hung up the cleats, so-to-speak. After more than 51 years of competitive golf, Palmer withdrew on Friday from the Administaff Small Business Classic simply because he said he couldn’t be competitive any longer. There’s absolutely no question of Palmer’s impact on the game of golf. He single-handedly introduced America to the game of golf in the 50s and we haven’t looked back since.
He was known as the King, and deservedly so, though more so for his approach and impact on the game than for his statistics. His real dominance was short-lived, …read more

Big Break VI – Episode 3

Big Break VI – Episode 3

Episode 3 of the Golf Channel’s Big Break VI threw a twist into the proceedings this week by eliminating a team, instead of individual players. However, Donald Trump (you knew he had to get involved) also threw his own twist into the mix by allowing the contestants to choose a different partner if they so desired, prior to the competition.

Of course, the Golf Channel played this up by showing clips of teammates Kelly Murray and Briana Vega having their difficulties and especially Vega thowing Murray under the bus prior to the contestants deciding if they want a new partner. …read more

Greg Norman Weighs In On Tiger

Greg Norman Weighs In On Tiger

I enjoyed Greg Norman’s career on the PGA Tour back in the day. He was from my generation and for a few years was the best golfer in the world. Plus he idolized Jack Nicklaus and during one brief period, even tried to emulate Jack’s physical approach to the game, which included his pre-shot routine up to his waggle.
Norman grew out of that and ultimately became the heartbreak-kid, because he found a multitude of ways to lose and/or get beat in major championships. Actually that’s not quite fair. The only tournament he reallly choked in was …read more
