Hale Irwin’s Sunset Years
It’s hard to believe that Hale Irwin last won on the Champions Tour one year ago at the SAS Championship. Irwin has been such a staple in the winner’s circle for a decade now that it’s kind of sad not to see him winning any longer. Father Time is catching up to Irwin and while he definitely has the competitive spirit, the body just can’t keep up with him.
Irwin has almost single-handedly kept the Champions Tour alive over the last 10 years, simply because he dominated for most of those years and when he wasn’t winning, he was at least keeping everyone else honest. Sadly, I don’t see anyone in the forseeable future carrying the Champions Tour flag the way Irwin did, and like I’ve written before, I’m not sure it will survive more than a few more years.
