Big Break VI – Episode 3

Episode 3 of the Golf Channel’s Big Break VI threw a twist into the proceedings this week by eliminating a team, instead of individual players. However, Donald Trump (you knew he had to get involved) also threw his own twist into the mix by allowing the contestants to choose a different partner if they so desired, prior to the competition.

Of course, the Golf Channel played this up by showing clips of teammates Kelly Murray and Briana Vega having their difficulties and especially Vega thowing Murray under the bus prior to the contestants deciding if they want a new partner. Of course, anyone with cable tv and half-a-mulligan could predict that Vega would opt out of her relationship with Murray. And she did. Kind of. The problem was that none of the other contestants chose to opt out of their teams so that meant that Vega and Murray would remain partners, kind of like the odd-couple (Murray must be Felix). This of course created all sorts of new dynamics for the team. Would Kelly lie down and/or snub Vega?

As it turns out, Kelly then ran the table on the next challenge and virutally locked them into the next show all by himself (almost). My personal opinion is that Kelly is somewhat of a flake and that “free-spirit” outlook will probably cost them in the end. On the other hand, Vega is a fierce competitor and her emotion may carry them through.

In the end though, the team of Charles Gibson and Kristy McPherson were eliminated as a team, primarily because they were outplayed in dramatic fashion. It was apparent they didn’t have a lot of team chemistry as they couldn’t even decide who should hit first on one of the challenges.

It’s too early to make a prediction, but I’m pulling for the team of Albert Crews and Laura London. Albert is a quiet, unassuming golfer with a very unorthodox grip, but so far the man is playing extremely well.
