A Good Round Of Golf
October 20, 2006 by admin

Have you ever thought about what really constitutes a good round of golf? There are many variables and dynamics that make up a round of golf, some good and some bad, but they both come with the package. I was thinking about this the other day driving home from work and a “good round of golf” has a different meaning than it did 4 or 5 years ago.
For me personally, a good round of golf means really enjoying the good shots when they come, but probably more importantly, enjoying the company of the guys I’m playing with. There’s a cliche that says, “a bad golfing is better than a good day working”, and I think that’s generally true. But there are times when your non-golf stress comes to the course with you and it can and does affect your game. I’ve been as guilty of this as anyone and golf (or any hobby) should be a release to some degree from whatever else might be going on with your life.
On the flip side, a bad day golfing should not affect your non-golf life, but that also happens way too often, though I can say I’m better at the latter than the former. Although, as my game deteriorates, it can be hard to enjoy the time on the course because you know you’ve got the potential to play so much better (but that’s a different column).
My priorities for a good round of golf:
- Good company
- Decent golf course (though I’m flexible)
- Not snowing and/or windy
- Hitting the ball consistently well
Granted, you can’t have them all, each time you play, but I know I’m guaranteed of at least one!
