Tiger Wins PGA Championship and 12th Major
Wow. What else do you say about Tiger? He easily won the 2006 PGA Championship today at Medinah Country Club and in the process, his 12th major of his career. This round seemed more matter-of-fact than his win at the Open Championship last month when he surgically mastered the final round.
I’m actually very surprised that non one (maybe I shouldn’t be?) made a run at him considering the course was still there for the taking. I don’t think Tiger intimidates his peers like he did in 2000, but at the same time, these guys have folded their tents in two successive majors and have made it easier for Tiger. That’s not to say Tiger didn’t earn it or doesn’t deserve the win because he’s head and shoulders above everybody else on the talent meter.
This was supposed to be the year that Mickelson rose to the occasion and challenged Tiger, but we know what happened to Phil at the U.S. Open, and he’s never recovered from that debacle. Look for Tiger to possibly go on another Major tear next year and separate himself even further.
