Ka-Ching!
So that’s what the sound of winning golf coins in your pocket sounds like? Just kidding! This rant is more on the lighter side of golf for a change. A couple of weeks ago, my regular three-some (brother Gary, and friend Perry) were introduced to a game called Ka-Ching! It’s a betting game (though we’ve not shelled out the greens stuff just yet as we’re trying to get a feel for the game) that involves 10 golf coins.
There are 5 good coins: birdie, flagstick putt, three-consecutive pars, chip-in, sand-save, and 5 bad coins: triple-bogey (my personal favorite), water hazard, out-of-bounds, three-putt, and lost ball. Obviously, if you make a birdie, or worse yet, a triple-bogey, you receive that respective coin until the next time someone makes that particular score.
There are a few ways to actually count points as each coin has its own unique point value and at the end of the round, you add the coin totals and see what your net total is. If for example, you have +3 points and -2 points, your net value is +1 and you receive 1 payable from each person playing. If on the other hand, you have -3 points, and +2 points, your net total is -1, so you own 1 payable to each person playing.
The other way to play is to just count the number of plus or minus coins (ignoring their point value) and calculate the totals that way. We’ve only been using the coins for a couple of rounds and they’ve made our golf much more interesting since you may think twice about trying to ram home that birdie and leaving yourself with a possible three-jack (and the dreaded three-jack coin!). My brother Gary had a horrible driving day last Sunday and he pretty much owned the out-of-bounds coin all day. I was lucky enough to make a couple of birdies and both he and Perry were desperately trying to drain their birdie putts on top of mine. On the other hand, I owned the triple-bogey coin all day and could never get rid of it.
You can order Ka-Ching coins from GolfStuffCheaper.com or PGA.com . (Note: I have no affiliation with either site.)
