LPGA

In a suprise final, Brittany Lincicome defeated Julie Inkster 3 and 2 win the HSBC Women’s World Match Play Championship. Lincicome defeated Lorena Ochoa in the morning match by winning the first extra hole and Inkster beat Paula Creamer in the other morning match, which set up the final between Lincicome and Inkster.

Inkster couldn’t keep her magic run alive while Lincicome played outstanding golf and kept pressure on Inskter all day. It’s quite possible this final came down to the 26 years age difference between the two competitors. It’s no secret that if your legs get tired and fatigued in golf, your swing and the rest of your game is sure follow, and though Inkster is in great physical shape, she just can’t compete against young competitors when it comes down to 36 holes in the final. This is Lincicome’s first LPGA win and comes in only her second season on the LPGA tour.

Trevor Immelman held off Tiger Woods at the Cialis Western Open in Chicago on Sunday. Woods put together a round of golf that was reminiscent of the old Tiger Woods as he made some clutch birdies down the stretch, but ultimately couldn’t make a birdie on 18 that would have tied Immelman. It was good see Woods playing competitive again as he tries to get his life back to some sort of normalcy again.
